Are They Same? No More!

One of the most striking features of Nature is the diversity of plants and animals within the system. Many animals share close resemblances with some other animals. I get asked too many times the differences between such animals, or at times I see people making mistakes about those animals. It is for this reason I thought, that it would be wise to write a blog about this topic. Rather than to explain different people different times. Recently someone told me that “There’s a Lizard on my room, how do I get rid of it” I knew it wasn’t a lizard but a Gecko!

So then, lets start with Lizards and Geckos !

Okay! Remember that term in Science that your teachers made you learn by heart during your SLC’s? “All Alkalis are bases but not all bases are alkalis?”  Well it’s kind of same here, All Geckos are Lizards but not all Lizards are Gecko. To be honest this doesn’t apply , it’s actually wrong. Then why did I say something that’s wrong? Because I just want you guys to have an Idea about the concept because it does apply to some leve. Two Species of Mammals Recorded from Nepal for the first time!

A group of researchers have recorded two new species of mammals from Upper Mustang. The steppe polecat (Mustela eversmanii) and The Tibetan wolf (Canis lupus chanco). Both species are found elsewhere, this is the first time they’ve been recorded from Nepal. They were found over a span of two months, using camera trapping, as per the report of Nature trust for Nature Conservation.

1.The Steppe Polecat (Mustela eversmanii), also known as the white or masked polecat, is a carnivore species of the family Mustelidae native to Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
Range : The species has been recorded steppes and semi-desert areas of eastern Europe and Asia.
Diet : Steppe pole cat is a carnivore found, mostly, feeding upon Squirrel, Hamsters, Marmots and Pika’s. Steppe cat help to control rodent population.
